Cloud player crashing in Android 11
-
Official comment
Hello,
Thanks for the report. We have been testing on the released version of Android 11 and haven't seen this issue but it has been reported by a few users so we're trying to figure out if there's a specific step to trigger the problem.
Is Bluetooth Auto-Play enabled? Does disabling it help?
Do you have ADB configured to capture crash logs?
Our apologies for the inconvenience.

I am getting the same crash that Cyrus reported above. I don't have the Cloudplayer though, just DoubleTwist Pro. The first few times it happened I was trying to listen to music thru my bluetooth headphones, but I just repeated it at my desk here with no bluetooth headphones, just using the phone's built-in speakers. My phone is a Pixel 3a XL, and I just updated yesterday to Android 11.

No Bluetooth auto-play is not enabled. I'm not familiar with ADB but I'll see what I can do. Thanks!

I am experiencing the same issues after installing Android 11 on my Pixel 3.
In addition to the crashing, every time a song advances (e.g. one song ends, goes to the next song in the album), my Pixel screen will continually flash on/off. The flashing will happen until (1) Android crashes and restarts in factory reset mode, (2) I manually intervene by hitting the power button to turn my screen off, or (3) after about 30 seconds sometime my screen just goes off but phone does not crash. After #2 or #3 occur, the only way to access my phone is through the power button again, biometerics (e.g. fingerprint reader) will not work.
Here are some things I have tested:
(1) I have tried 3 bluetooth devices, as well as the phone's built in speakers - the issue persists
(2) I have tried playing songs downloaded locally, as well as songs streamed from OneDrive - the issue persists
(3) I have tried hitting the next/back track button to manually advance/go back tracks - the issue does not occur
(4) I have tried other music players - the issue does not occur

I have a similar issue on a Pixel 3a with the screen flickering uncontrollably whenever I play a song with a cover image. My phone doesn't crash. Shutting off my screen and turning it back on fixes the issue until I load a new song. Sometimes it tells me that it's SystemUI that keeps crashing. Turning off the playback notification in settings gets rid of the problem for me but also turns off the new media controls, so I suspect that's the culprit.

Hi,
I also am having the same issue with CloudPlayer after my phone updated to Android version 11. I have a Pixel 2 and am streaming music from OneDrive. When selected, a song will play for a few seconds while the screen goes black and blinks for several seconds before I get another screen that indicates that the phone is about to perform a system reset. When I press the power button after receiving this message, the phone shuts down and the phone reboots.
Some added information: I am using some new Samsung Buds Live which connect to my phone via BlueTooth.
This is very disturbing.

I've had exactly the same problem on Pixel 3. Basically the lock icon appears and the screen goes black and flashes and then eventually crashes and asks my phone to restart. Perhaps it's a Google phone issue?

Hello,
The QA/Dev team identified the API call that was triggering the crash. They are preparing an update which will resolve the issue. We hope to push the update to the Play Store within the next day or two.
In the meantime, as Brian mentioned, you can dismiss the new media controls introduced in Android 11 and this crash should no longer occur.
Our apologies for the inconvenience.

Good to know you have the issue defined. Love the app and hope you can have a new version available that soon!

I'm having the same problem with a pixel 2 updated to Android 11. When the update is released will we need to uninstall, re-install. Also its good to know you guys are on the ball. 10/10
Also, about the interface, any chance we can have a 'car control' player interface with larger controls. I'm of course using responsibly. But larger transport controls would be welcome.

Same issue, different platform. I have a Pixel 4XL and have encountered this issue on wireless Android Auto. The phone crashes when changing to second song. DoubleTwist Pro.

The new update fixed the issues I was having. But, now I'm getting fluctuations in audio volume when playing music. Sometimes it just jumps to a much higher volume after a new song starts. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Colin Jarrett You can just update, no need to reinstall. As for a "car UI", our apps supports Android Auto but I will also forward your suggestion to the product manager for consideration in future updates.

Same issue with Android 11 on pixel 4
Do you have a release date for the update ?0 -
I have the latest version of CloudPlayer Platinum (V1.80) From a few days ago, installed on a Pixel 3 XL with Android 11. The player is performing the same issue as described, playing a song for 90 seconds or so, flashing the screen the entire time, then crashing the phone causing a reboot. This occurs with music that is downloaded to my device or music that is in the cloud (Google Drive via WiFI).
I was unable to find the suggested work around (Turning off the playback notification in settings gets rid of the problem). Where is this option to turn off, in the player or in Android settings?
Are there any other updates I need to install?
Should I uninstall and reinstall?

Are you guys planning on pushing the same update to Cloudplayer Platinum?
I am experiencing the same issue with platinum and I see that regular cloudplayer has updated but cloudplayer platinum has not on the play store.
Thanks for addressing this problem so quickly!

Nitin Egbert We're trying to push the update but Google is not letting us at the moment. We're trying to work it out with them. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Antonio Cervantes The regular CloudPlayer update is now available but Google hasn't allowed the CloudPlayer Platinum update yet. We're working with them to release it.

Alan K. Sean Android 11 introduced new permanent media controls in the Notification Shade. You can swipe on the controls to dismiss. This will prevent the crash as Google left a bug in Android 11 that is causing the crashes.

For all Premium users. Disabling the notification of the media cobtrols in the apps info screen from Android seems to fix it. No media player controls in the notification area for now, but thats maybe the best solution until.the update is live on play store ...

I'm still facing the issue. How is the update issue with Google going? Do you have a release date ? Or is there any work around ?

Hello Antonio Cervantes Unfortunately Google is still refusing to approve the update. We are trying to escalate the issue but so far, Google has been unresponsive. :(
Until this update gets approved, you can dismiss the new media controls introduced in Android 11 and this crash should no longer occur.0 -
I'm facing the same issue with pixel 2, android 11 and Cloudplayer Platinum Platinum. I've dismissed media controls wherever I could (GPM, Amazon prime m.) . With Cloud player I don't even have a chance to dismiss anything or access anything in UI because Cloudplayer renders the entire system inoperational.
Please, do something about it. This is frustrating beyond imagination.
UPD: just found out there is new v1.8.1 available with fix for SystemUI crash on Android 11.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app - now it seems work perfectly. Would be nice if this update was pushed automatically but - thanx for the fix!
