Volume changes up and down in Android Auto with loudness of track
I dont know if it is CloudPlayer doing this, or Android, or the car. But if i play a song that has a quiet section, followed by a sudden loud section, then SOMETHING is trying to compensate for the quiet section and sucking at it. The quiet section will be louder than it should be, which is annoying in its own right. But worse, the first second of the loud piece will be SUPER loud, until the volume is adjusted again. It ruins tracks that vary in volume. Is it CloudPlayer doing this? Is it Android Auto?
I dont have the problem when listening to radio. CloudPlayer on my phone is ok too. Spotify through Android Auto is also ok. But the combo of CloudPlayer and Android Auto has the volume issue.

Hello,
Thanks for the report. We haven't seen this issue during testing but I will ask the QA/Dev team to investigate.
Do you have Loudness Normalization enabled in doubleTwist Settings? Does this behavior change if you toggle this option

Hi again,
Well, of course I'd figure it out myself, right after posting here. Sorry about that. I've been trying to debug this for months, but couldn't figure anything out until yesterday.
I found a setting in my phone that I didn't know I had. It's a Galaxy S9+, and the setting is found at (Translated names) Settings -> Sounds & Vibration -> Advanced Sound Settings -> Sound Quality and Effects.
Here you will find settings for Dolby Atmos. Dolby Atmos as a whole can be switched on/off. After switching it off, the music plays normally, no fluctuations in volume. So it must have been Dolby Atmos interfering, trying to "improve" my experience.
Some other random facts, in case other people come looking:
My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S9+, Exynos, and the issue was persistent across Android Oreo and Pie, likely because it's a feature rather than a bug.
The issue was the same, regardless of the version of Andoid Auto (I have had pretty much all versions from 3.0.x to 4.4.x)
The car is a Peugeot 208, although I don't know if the head unit has a model number on its own. Tried available settings in the head unit, made no difference.1 -
Hello,
Thanks for the update. I will forward to the QA/Dev team so they can look into if it's some type of odd interaction with the Atmos enhancement.

Hello Morten
Look into your settings - have you probably enabled the feature "normalise loudness in the "Playback" category of the player itself (I'm not sure if the term is right, I use the German version)? If this is enabled, it raises the loudness if there are "quiet" parts in songs, like the flat part in Trance tracks.
I hope it is possible to understand what I mean :)
Best regards from Germany, Biggi

Hi Birgit,
This issue was resolved several months ago. The issue mostly disappeared after disabling Dolby Atmos. I never had Loudness Normalization turned on.
Volume still goes up and down a bit sometimes, but it is rarer now that I notice, and it is definitely less aggressive that before. I still suspect that it some underlying functionality in the car speaker system (Peugeot 208 from 2018)0 -
Hey mate, I know this thread is old but I thought I was losing my mind or my hearing was basically tired of living. I found it completely went away when I turned off <Adapt_sound>
Go to:
Settings>Sounds_and_vibration>Sound_quality_and_effects>Adapt_sound:OffI have a Samsung Galaxy so I think you are suffering from the same blight... I hope this illuminates your issue because no one deserves that hell--blessings.
