Hi, thanks for making such a wonderful product for us 'Mac and Android users'.
I recently completely cleaned up my iTunes and iPhoto library. I deleted a lot of songs and I added new ones. However, doubleTwist still hasnt updated for everything. How do I rescan doubleTwist to update?

Hi Matt,
Thanks for the feedback. Currently, there's no easy way to have it rescan, but we are considering making this easier in a future release.
For now you can either:
1) Manually delete the files that from the doubleTwist library
or
2) delete the folder /Library/Application Support/doubleTwist/Libraries/ - it will rescan on next launch and re-import data from iTunes and iPhoto.

What about Windows? Where is this located in Windows operating system?

I was on the edge of giving up and goign back to winamp or something else. this made the choice easier, i hadnt found this problem yet.
This is indeed a huge fail and makes the program useless -

On Windows to make it rescan you libary in Win 7 go remove the files in
C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Local\doubleTwist Corporation\doubleTwist desktop\Data\5d68dd24-800f-4723-a60b-bc2cd8078513-
The number of the last file may be different on your machine. But deleting the files there rescanned my library. Thanks Reggie!

On windows XP erase the files in this folder: C:\Documents and Settings\%UserName%\Local Settings\Application Data\doubleTwist Corporation\doubleTwist desktop\Data\85eeb1de-b3e3-42fb-93c1-30961b730e6

Having DoubleTwist update the library is a much needed feature. I frequently change tags or file names on music, then when I sync, it appears twice.

Still no fix for this 8+ months laters? How hard can it be to add a library refresh command?

FAIL for DoubleTwist. Try doing some UX research in the future. Put in features that actually matter. This is so basic it is AMAZING they overlooked it. The suggested workaround does not make it worth using this software.
Goodbye DoubleMissed! -

Doubletwist sucks. Android needs a good music sync solution NOW. Doubletwist is not it.

I have recently rediscovered WinAmp. It has a free wireless sync feature. While i have not set up the wireless sync feature, the connected sync works perfectly for me. Plus, I just love winamp...complete with all the shoutcast stations!

When deleting the doubletwist library, is it also necessary to delete the music on my Samsung Galaxy SII or will doubletwist --- upon rescanning my iTunes library to recreate its doubletwist library --- remove or move around the files on my Samsung phone as necessary?
-
Hello,
If you delete the library, it may or may not remove files on your GS2 depending on what the sync library has in it's history.
It's probably easier to just remove all of the files on your GS2 and resync to make sure.
Thanks,

10 month later and no rescan?? The double twist Android app is awesome, but the desktop app is absolutely not. I have created playlists, but needed to rescan my folder music since I've added some music wich was a big midtake... all my playlists are gone because I have followed the advise from above and deleted the sqlite database...

Again - another FAIL for DT. The thing that annoys me is the fact that app developer hate on Apple but let me say one thing. Apple at least go to some effort to test software before they push it out the door.
Lets look at the facts here:
You SELL an app the purports to 'sync' iTunes to Android devices.
Your app 'copies' files but FAILS to sync any changes made in iTunes after the initial import.
Your fix to this is that everytime someone makes a change to their iTunes library they should delete the DT library and let it rescan ?
This is a farce and a disgrace... -
-
And another problem not addressed after a whole year. In fact, haven't actually seen and update to DT since I started testing it over three months ago.
Rescanning and checking of targeted folders should have been a priority above apps for devices that depend on computer side media management program.
Not only is not working dependantly with iTunes... it has even more problems when run on its own without iTunes installed. -

I was looking to use DT as my media player on my new Droid RAZR as I don't like the built in software, but after running across this, and the fact that it automatically imports every MP3 it can find on my computer, not just the ones in my iTunes library, I'm giving up and will go with Winamp or some other player.
Thanks for wasting 6 hours of my life struggling with your deficient UI. -

This is the only feature keeping me from using doubletwist and buying airsync. I have a ipod shuffle, and an android device, so still use itunes regularly. The fact that changes in my itunes library are not reflected is very disappointing.

doubleTwist also allows you to choose folders to automatically scan, and it will pull in any new music, photos, and movies files from those folders (See Preferences).
The part that it does not do that I believe Matt was asking about is to pick up files that were deleted in your iTunes or iPhoto library, and delete them from the doubleTwist library. doubleTwist does not delete files automatically if you delete them from iTunes and iPhoto, so that you don't lose things in doubleTwist without noticing. doubleTwist will also not automatically delete files that have been removed from your system (we would not want to assume that if a file is missing it is not going to come back - it may just be on a hard drive that is temporarily disconnected).
You can delete the files from doubleTwist as well if you don't want them in your doubleTwist library.
doubleTwist does have many automatic importing and syncing features with iTunes. The only part it will not do without manual intervention is remove entries for files that have been deleted.
If DT hopes to become an independent iTunes alternative, than you gotta start with exactly that: make it an alternative that works just as well or better. Currently DT lacks way too many features to even compare to iTunes: audiobook capability, syncing the whole library with a device rather that a playlist or individual items, proper tagging abilities, etc.
If DT plans to be a middleman between the desktop iTunes and portable devices (which is totally fine), than make DAMN SURE that it will sync impeccably with iTunes. I don't care what old or residual libraries there are or where the music files are located, make it smart enough to talk with iTunes.
Also, Clean up your damn menus and make a proper help file so that one could actually understand why there are two conflicting clauses in the options: "choose where your files are stored" and "Scan iTunes for library of new files". Even a child understand that a program could only sync with one of the above, and yet both options are on by default.
What a mess!
