AirTunes to AirPort Express
Enable doubleTwist for Android to send my music to an AirPort Express using AirTunes / AirPlay, instead of just to Apple TV devices.

4Support for Airport Express is not coming in the near future, as it is using the AirTunes subset of the AirPlay protocol -- which is the one that we currently support. We've updated the Market details for this app to reflect that statement.
AirTunes support is far more complex to implement as it involves accessing the raw audio stream for delivery via AirTunes and Android presently doesn't provide access to the raw audio for us to do this. We're investigating though.
Please let me know if you have further questions or concerns. -
Got excited about the new AirSync, but once I realised it doesn't work with AirPort Express, I was very disappointed :(
Would love AirPort Express support -
agreed just bought airsync thinking that it would play to my airport express, please sort this out asap

It should work considering that it is the same technology (AirPlay).. Right?
-
-
That's what I would have thought. Sadly not. My Apple TV shows up in the list, but not my Airport Expresses.
-

-
-
Yeah, I finally figured out how to activate the speaker selection via swiping up on the screen, but airport express was not an option. Please fix. Also my HTC G2 doesn't seem to detect any airplay enabled servers. Sigh.

Yeah, huge bummer. Would be really great if this worked.
I mean, honestly, who owns an apple tv?-
Me :P

+1 to all the above. Have paid for Air Sync and was hoping to FINALLY be able to do this to an Airport networked sound system like my partner's iPhone can
-
-
-
-
-
+1 for Express Support. Saying you have "Airplay" support is bait and switch without it
-
-
I'll give you guys 3 days to fix Airport Support, if not I'm canceling my purchase
-
-
I completely agree with mstave. Not mentioning APE is not supportet can only be considered misleading on purpose! BTW, there's a free alternative, that does stream ti APE: Twonky. Interface is not impressive, but it does work!

I also purchased AirSync thinking it would allow me to play through my Airport Express - http://www.9to5mac.com/66066/android-...
-
-
Wish I'd found this thread before purchase. And before my 15 minutes of refund were up.
-
-
+1 Description sounded like ANY AirPlay device is supported, and, at least for me, the AirportExpress is an Airplay device.
Please refund or - way better - make it happen!!! -
-
I have the same problem!
I only buy it for streaming to the airport express. -
-
Same here- perhaps a big disclaimer pointing out that doubleTwist for Android won't send music to Airport Express? It can take more than the 15 minute refund period just to set up and get synchronised- very disappointed here. At least it was cheap.
-
-
I'll buy this the moment Airport express is supported. Can anyone at double twist at least comment on whether it is an approved project or not?
-
-
i purchased this b/c of AirPlay to AEx support. This is most annoying. DoubleTwist: please comment ASAP on when this is going to be implemented.
-
-
I have speakers set up around the house. Each of them connected to an Airport express. I can thump from my mac but not from my Droid. Had to download an app that lets me control my Mac from my droid which runs iTunes. Seems very inefficient.

This is being done by Airfoil on W7 or MacOs, too bad you don't support
Airport Express, I need this app before buying an android tablet.
Please let us know if you start doing it.. -

@Lucas: *playing the world's tiniest violin*
As I wrote before: Twonky already does it on Android. Why can't you?-
Twonky wrote some of the underlying technology that Android uses and thus had a bit of a headstart on this particular functionality.

Cannot see Apple TV neither... however, works just fine on itunes. Maybe I should rather stick with Apple products :-(
-
-
Terrible to see that I'm not the only one who was tricked into buying this app whilst
airport Express is not support.
Website suggests otherwise.-
Stan, the Market listing actually notes: "Stream videos, photos and music to your Apple TV (black model) with Twist ToTM (AirPort Express is not yet supported)" and has since a day or two after we launched the feature.
However, feel free to contact us at support at doubletwist dot com if you have further concerns.
Thanks,

Somehow it's also out in the media explicitly... http://9to5mac.com/2011/05/09/android...
Very disappointing, -
-
lucas, any update on when this app will stream to airport express? i bought it for sole purpose of this streaming functionality only to find it doesn't exist.
-
-
Dealbreaker for me. Just bought it since I was sure it could play over APE. Refund for me untill fixed.

@Tim Forbes: We don't have any immediate plans. Please contact me at support at doubletwist dot come to discuss further.

How do I get the speaker selection ?
Michael McCarver talked about Swiping the screen up .. I am swiping, but not selection comes. Althought I have an Apple TV 2 on the network ... -
-
Thierry,
You should see an additional icon in your play control bar when a device is detected on your network that can be streamed to. When your ANdroid device and your Apple TV 2 are on the same network, are you not seeing this additional icon (it looks kind of like a WiFi icon).

I need to put my ipod touch in the bin but I need doubletwist work (airsync) with my airport express and even my freebox revolution (air media)
Samsung galaxy S2

yes like mastakony, I trying to find solution to diffuse music via airplay on my freebox revolution. But airtwist do not detect my freebox server why, please help me ?
-
Hello,
We have not tested AirPlay with the Freebox Revolution. It's likely that it's not 100% compatible with the Airplay protocol.
Thanks,
Henry -

Absolutely!!
This was the reason I purchased Airsync. I don't even own an Apple TV. I feel that it could have been made more clear that Airport Express isn't supported as I'm sure more people have an old Airport Express knocking around than an Apple TV.
Looks like its back to my old ipod if I want to stream with out the PC burning through the electric bill.- view 2 more comments

Hello!
Just a question about when it could be expected?
Patience is a virtue! But about how long.... -
-
Hello,
We are still looking into this with no time table available. The issue is that it's not a simple tweak as the Airport Express and Apple TV rely on two different technologies.
Thanks,
Henry -

I'd love to see this feature as much as anyone else in this forum, however I think it's more likely we'll see an updated AirPort Express that supports the current AirPlay spec rather than the older AirTunes spec. It's probably just not worth the developer's time to implement AirTunes unfortunately.

If you are right then thats a shame when you consider that both my IOS 5 devices can still stream to my old airport express units as well as to an Apple TV.
Just because Apple releases an updated product it doesn't mean that the older units that everyone owns stop working and become redundant. If anything building in support for older devices is a way of maintaining the usefulness of your product for a lot more potential customers. In fact I don't know anyone with an Apple TV but I know a lot of Airport owners and I don't think that supporting a piece of software on an android phone is enough of an incentive for people to upgrade to a new Airport Express if their current wireless network is working for them on all other levels.
People change their phones a lot more often than any other product. It was very easy for me to sell my Defy on eBay and purchase an old iphone 3gs to get back the airport streaming that I and a lot of others are used to.
Hmm..my reply to your post seems to have become a rant towards DoubleTwist. Sorry about that :)-
That is a terrible argument. Of course your iOS devices stream perfectly. Its apples own protocol. The doubletwist guys are correct, the only way to stream from android to aiport express that I've found is the honey music player app in the android market and that sets up a direct link from the phone to the airport express. Doubletwist streamsthrough the wifi connection but it has to switch protocols while in the network to hit the express.

-
-
Why is this a terrible argument?
Just because Apple relys on customers updating their hardware to sell more goods does not mean that alternative software producers have to concede to that model and only support the latest and greatest.
My argument was that by making your product support older hardware that is already established in people homes that your are making your product useful to a wider customer base.
Thanks for the heads up on the Honey music player though. -
-
C'mon guys! I've also just paid $5 for the AirSync upgrade given the Doubletwist Android Market representation that this allows me to stream via my wifi network and Airplay. It says nowhere obvious that it does not support Apple Airport Express, until I have bought this useless software and then discovered this discussion thread! Please do better and provide the Airport Express support!

Hi Henry,
Now DT does not even launch on my ASUS TF101. It blacks out and freezes. I seriously want my money back please. Thanks. -
-
Hello,
Please send us the Android log from your device so we can further diagnose this issue.
You can do this by installing a log reader application such as this one:
https://market.android.com/details?id...
After installation, try to launch doubleTwist, save the log, and email it to us at:
support at doubletwist.com
Subject: TF101 crash
Please also send us your Google Checkout/Wallet receipt.
Thanks,

Also disappointed. May have to go back to iPhone.
Cheers.
Otherwise, your product is excellent. -

GET IN CONTACT WITH THE GUYS FROM HONEY PLAYER...
AIRPLAY IS AIRPORT EXPRESS !!!
MY GUESS 80% OF THE AIRPLAY USERS GOT AN APE AND 20% AN APTV, SO FIX THIS! -
-
PISSED OFF.
marketplace states airplay which is very misleading, SHOULD state APPLE TV using the generic term of airplay leads the user to believe that it will work with any apple wireless device including the airport express. very disappointed to NOT find my express in the list of devices, and then finding out I wasted $5.00
Angry.- view 1 more comment

Complain via Google Marketplace feedback and get your money back. I did and succeeded.

Hello imailjohn,
I'm sorry that you thought the AirPort Express was supported but in the Google Play Store, it specifically says that the AE isn't supported yet.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/de...
"♬ Stream music, videos and photos to devices such as Xbox, PS3, Sonos, and Apple TV (black model; AirPort Express not yet supported)."
Please use the Play Store order feedback mechanism to send us a note.
Thanks,
Henry -

Airport Express support would be brilliant, but I cant complain - I bought knowing it wasnt there!

Gregory,
I don't have an ETA to give you on that, unfortunately.

Does the NEWLY released Airport express work out of the box as 'true' airplay that is DoubleTwist compatible, or is it still relying on 'airtunes' implementation?
-
Hello,
As far as I am aware, the Airport Express still uses AirTunes so doubleTwist Player is not compatible with it.
Thanks,
Henry -
